Why is my window hard to open?

Common causes: dirty tracks/slides, paint that sticks, worn crank or hinges, or a frame slightly out of square after the house moves.

What to try / what to avoid

Clean the tracks and lubricate what the manufacturer allows. Avoid extreme force: it breaks the hardware. If it has been stiff since a recent install, have the installer come back.
