How to choose

  • PVC or hybrid?

Multi-chamber PVC insulates well and remains the most common choice in renovation. Aluminum/PVC hybrid adds an aluminum face on the outside: useful for lasting dark colours and a more contemporary look, without giving up PVC insulation on the interior.

  • Casement, sliding, double-hung, awning

Casement (crank): mainly on the front façade — good ventilation, excellent airtightness. Note for egress: clear opening can be limited depending on the configuration; we then turn to a casement with an operable mullion, or egress hinges.

Sliding: often on the sides and back, more economical, ideal when outdoor space is tight (walkway, balcony, landscaping).

Double-hung: when the style of the house calls for it, or for precise ventilation from the top or bottom.

Awning: smaller sizes, but a wide opening without a vertical bar blocking the view — practical above a kitchen sink. Can stay open in the rain; also useful for privacy in a bathroom.

Frequently asked questions about windows

Casement or crank window — is that the same thing?

Yes. “Crank” describes the mechanism; the opening type is the casement (and the awning). It opens outward for good airtightness and precise ventilation.

PVC or hybrid to replace my windows?

PVC for most renovation projects. Hybrid when you want lasting dark colours on the outside or a more architectural profile. We show you both at the showroom.

What is a basement egress window?

Some rooms must offer a compliant emergency exit (regulated dimensions and clear opening). For that, we usually recommend a casement with an operable mullion, as well as egress hinges on some windows — which increases the clear opening. We guide you based on code and your window opening.

Grilles and ENERGY STAR® — do they go together?

With a grille in double glazing, the window is generally no longer ENERGY STAR®. In triple glazing with a grille, we can often stay ENERGY STAR®, depending on the configuration. We’ll confirm that on your quote.
