What is a window’s U-factor?

The U-factor measures how much heat passes through the window. The lower the number, the better the thermal insulation (all else equal).

Keep in mind

Compare U values on similar configs (same opening type, similar sizes). An excellent U on paper does not replace an airtight install or the right choice for the room’s orientation.
