Should you replace only the door or the full frame?

If the frame (jamb) is square, sound and airtight, replacing the slab can be enough. If it is rotten, out of square or full of old hardware holes, a door + frame system is cleaner and more airtight.

What we often recommend

In residential renovation, a full replacement gives a better lasting result — especially if the entry is 20–30 years old. At Dumoulin, except in rare cases, we do not replace a door in an existing frame. From experience, it never gives a good result.
